It was Summer Vacation of 1991. I'm not going to bother trying to figure the exact date. Our mom works for the school system, and she worked part time until I was in either fourth or fifth grade. One morning, Sis and I were looking for something to watch, and we were digging around the tape shelves of our basement, looking for something to watch. I don't remember who found it, but one of us pulled out a familiar gray and silver tape sleeve. The side label said "Get Along Gang" on one line, and "Care Bears" on the next line. I pulled the tape out of the sleeve, and the label on the front read "Get Along Gang" on one line, and "Strawberry Shortcake" underneath it. Apparently, we had found the Bit the Dust Tape. I really don't know what happened next. All I know is that I went out to the backyard where Mom was cleaning the pool, and we asked her if it was okay if we watched the Bit the Dust Tape. I don't remember what she said, but I think it was something along the lines of "I don't care what you watch." I guess we took that as a yes, because the minute I got back inside, I popped the tape into the VCR, and started rewinding it.

I know we stopped the tape periodically during the day. Once was when we took a lunch break. The majority of the time was when the sound warped on the tape, and the tracking started to get back, so I'd go pop it out of the machine, shake it, and pop it back in. I know Mom came downstairs twice during it. The first time, I think we were either on CBBFM or MLP. The second time was during SSCBAC.

We managed to get to SSCBAC before Mom told us to stop the tape. The sound was skipping, and it sounded extremely warped, and that's the best way I can describe it. Mom was working on the computer while we were on SSCBAC. She told us to stop the tape because we were going to break the machine. I think. I talked to her recently about this, and she said she told us to stop because we were going to break the tape. I'm not sure which it was, but in any case, she told us to stop, so we stopped. I don't think any major hissy fits were thrown, but Sis and I did groan over it ("awwwwwww!!!!!") or something along those lines. I don't really remember. Well, that night, the tape was in the trash, and that was the last we saw of it.

Boy, some grand finale! We never even got to finish the tape!

Easy Bake Oven Commercial
This commercial wasn't on our tape, but I found it on a tape I bought. This is on here to show exactly what the tape did at the time it bit the dust, because I can not begin to explain it, except that the sound warped at times. This clip is from Videomercials Volume 40.
